Applying Info Sec Expertise in Leadership & Management: Value of Universal Principles

Speaker:
Richard Feingold, Co-founder and Business Manager, Creative Health Solutions

Abstract:

Through the last several decades we’ve faced profound and unrelenting information security challenges: problems whose solutions require understanding multiple technologies, a vast threat terrain, and disparate business requirements.

Information Security Professionals must master a broad and deep body of knowledge that can be applied to meet challenges in other areas.

From that body of knowledge we select principles that hold true across different domains. We extend them to other challenges showing how they facilitate and enable organization creation, leadership, and operation.

We demonstrate how we used those principles to create and operate a successful clinic.
We then circle back to see how the lessons learned in the clinic enhances our understanding of the universal principles and how they might relate to the information security domain.

The 411 on CyberSecurity Certifications and Job Roles

Speaker:  Robin M. Abernathy – Content Manager for CompTIA, Project Management, and Security Certifications, Kaplan IT Training

Abstract:
With large-scale data breaches constantly in the news, it's no surprise that the No. 1 buzzword for IT certification is “security.” Where should a student or professional start looking for a security certification? Once started, where do you go next? What is the difference between a security professional and an ethical hacker? Do you want a certification focused on forensic analysis or general system auditing topics? Should you be dusting for user credentials or handling cybersecurity incidents? What do all of these roles even mean?

This presentation will help you navigate the path of security certifications from a variety of vendors, including CompTIA, (ISC)², Cisco and EC-Council. We’ll lead you through a roadmap of the certification landscape, and examine how they apply to industry standards like DoD Directives 8140.01 and 8570.1. By the end, you'll be prepared to talk the talk and help lead other wanderers.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the different cybersecurity certifications available.
Describe how different cybersecurity certifications relate to each other.
Describe how different cybersecurity certifications relate to job roles.

CC-04 - Building the Cybersecurity Workforce for Tomorrow

Speakers: Daniel Stein, Acting Branch Chief of the Cybersecurity Education and Awareness (CE&A), DHS CE&A
Noel Kyle, Program Lead, Department of Homeland Security

Abstract:

The demand for cybersecurity professionals is at an all-time high. How can the nation address this exponentially growing need for a knowledgeable and skilled cybersecurity workforce? To support a consistent nationwide understanding of cybersecurity work, DHS co-developed the National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework—a blueprint to describe, categorize and organize cybersecurity work into specialty areas, tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities. Additionally, DHS offers several resources to foster opportunities for continual professional development, including free online cybersecurity training to government employees and veterans (FedVTE).

Come join this session to learn how to apply this workforce framework, along with best-practices and free online resources, to strengthen your cybersecurity workforce and develop adaptable strategies in the face of ever-changing cyberattacks.

Learning Objectives:

Understand the National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework.
Explore professional development opportunities available to government employees and veterans in cybersecurity (FedVTE).
Learn methods to apply these tools in a modern workforce.
